What is AI literacy?
AI literacy is knowing enough about AI to use it well and safely, including what it is good at, where it goes wrong and when to check its work.
In plain English
You don’t need to code to be AI literate. It means you can tell what a tool is doing, know its limits, protect your data and spot when an answer needs checking. It is like being good with money: you don’t need to be a banker.
Why it matters
It is now part of the law in Europe. Since February 2025, Article 4 of the EU AI Act has asked companies that build or use AI to help their staff understand it. A 2026 update softened the wording, but the duty stayed.
An example
An AI-literate employee asks a chatbot to draft a report, then checks every figure, leaves customer names out of the prompt and says the draft was AI-assisted.
Watch out
AI literacy isn’t one course you finish. Tools change every few months. The Learn AI path is a good place to start.
